It’s Rider’s 500th issue! For this special collector’s edition we made sure to include several interesting and humorous stories that commemorate the magazine’s 500th milestone without shoving aside the important news, road tests and touring stories that make Rider your monthly go-to magazine. For starters we compare the two six-guns of luxury touring, the BMW K 1600 GTL and Honda Gold Wing Tour, and give the new Yamaha Star Eluder bagger a full test. For some 500th fun the Rider staff takes on a 500-mile day on some itty bitty single-cylinder machines, and we also combed through every page of the last 499 issues to assemble some Blasts from Rider’s Past. It’s a long way to Austin, Texas, and back from Southern California, especially in the dead of winter, so we thought we’d give it a go on a pair of Can-Am Spyder roadsters. Minnesota’s strange and wonderful Otter Trail Scenic Byway is covered in the Favorite Ride; in Tips, Tricks & Answers we offer some good safety tips and sound tech advice and there’s lots of great gear tests in the issue as well. Our columnists rose to the occasion of Rider’s 500th issue too, with semi-salient musings on the motorcycling world and a special challenge to all of you riders out there.
