Two recent statistics about global warming reported in Time magazine are worth noting.
First, Antarctic temperature records were broken on March 18 with a high of 11.3°F. That is 70 degrees warmer than normal for that date. Second, an ice shelf some 460 miles wide has collapsed in East Antarctica “in an area previously thought to be stable in the face of climate change.” These observations come on the heels of earlier reports in scientific journals that Thwaites Glacier (the world’s largest glacier) could be within years of a catastrophic surge and collapse into the ocean as an ice shelf holding it back breaks up.
