The 37-year-old American tanker Houston has gone for scrap after serving most of its life as the replenishment tanker Gus W. Darnell.

One of America’s oldest tankers, the 32,625-dwt Houston, has been sold for demolition at Alang, India following a service life of 37 years. Built in 1985 as Ocean Champion by Tampa Shipbuilding for Houston, Texasbased Ocean Product Tankers, the 9,089ldt vessel spent most of her life under charter to the US Military Sealift Command (MSC) as the replenishment tanker Gus W. Darnell (AOT-1121) and last operated commercially as Houston under the ownership of USS Vessel Management LLC.
