Tour boat passengers are given a fine view of Finnline’s 4,048grt Finnpulp as she passes the Stülcken shipyard in Hamburg. The yard survived until 1967, when it was absorbed by Blohm+Voss, while the 1953-built Finnpulp was broken up for scrap at Aliaga, Turkey in 1989 after sailing as Gina and Scaplake.
Harbour tour boats provide the public, and ship enthusiasts, with some of the best scenes of ships, shipyards and harbour activity in today’s somewhat restricted commercial environment. They did the same over 60 years ago, when W.J. Oakes took these photos from tour boats at Copenhagen and Hamburg of ships and scenes which now seem part of another age, with captions by Jim Shaw.
