Growing up on the east coast of Scotland meant staple summer wear involved shorts, wellies, and waterproofs. However, the long hours of daylight coupled with the wet weather produced field upon field of the biggest, brightest, reddest strawberries. School holidays were spent in the employ of local farmers picking (and eating!) bucketloads of berries for the jam factories. We were paid pennies, but at the time it was a fortune.
