Parisian Street Scene 2, watercolour, 16.× 21.in (42× 54cm)
Street scenes are always popular to paint and draw because they are lined with interesting shops and houses, awnings, lights, cafes and gardens, windows, people and pets, bikes and barriers and lots of enticing windows to look in.
My aim when painting street scenes is to capture the mood of the street, be it busy or quiet or full of light and shadows. It is important to get perspective correct and most people paint one-point perspective because this is relatively easy – every line leads towards one focal point on an imaginary distant horizon, if you are standing on flat ground.
