SEOUL STARS DESERVE TO BE HONOURED LIKE RIO GIRLS
Roger Self, manager of the Olympic gold medal-winning 1988 men’s team, has admitted to feeling “terrible” with his OBE as the playing side continue to be excluded from The Queen’s honours. Self, who first managed Great Britain in 1980, has campaigned for equal recognition for nearly thirty years along with Richard Dodds, the GB captain in Seoul, but the duo have failed to convince various governments in that time. Self became the latest to speak out over the honours’ exclusions after Dodds told a national newspaper last week that the 1988 team were “just as worthy” as the 2016 women’s squad, who were all made MBEs in the Queen’s New Year list after winning gold in
Rio.
