The View Magazine Spring Issue 2020 started as a prison magazine. It was started by 3 women at HMP Downview as a revolutionary act of rebellion against the way women were being treated. In the first issue you will find their art and the personal stories of women incarcerated and crying out for mental health support, but not receiving any treatment. In the in depth article Recall Review, women tell about their unfair and possibly unlawful recalls because they were being let down by probation services. An overview of the Mental Health Act and suggested reforms asks why we are incarcerating people who need care not cages.

Solicitor Advocate Mike Nicholls examines AI and how justice is being influenced by artificial intelligence and the encroaching use of technology across all areas of justice.

Former prisoner Claire Barstow writes a long piece about helping to set up an approved premises with Probation where women can go once they are released from prison, illustrated with the whimsical but hard-hitting visuals of Erika Flowers.

Charlotte Henry writes about losing her brother Alex to the depravity of the justice system that will not recognise his autism, and what it means to live with an IPP tarriff.

More and more women are to appeal unfair, punitive sentences and Dr Anton Van Dellen and Harry O'Sullivan from Fraser Chambers explain the process and untangle the red tape.
