While many songs follow simple verse/ chorus A/B structures, songwriters often incorporate other sections into their songs. Intros, outros andmiddle sections are common in all styles of music, whereas more progressive acts create complex structures which can defy the A/B kind of analysis. We’re looking at the more basic section types here, but if you want to try writing more complex material, we recommend applying the A/B concept to a single section. For example, try writing an intro with two stages before leading into your first verse.
