March marked the one-year anniversary of lockdown being imposed in the UK, and few of us expected to still be under similar restrictions, which have largely prevented our businesses from functioning in this time. While African nations’ borders are now mostly open, visitor numbers remain low due to the restrictions that remain in source market countries around the world and a drop in the frequency of flights servicing the continent.
Hotels and lodges across Africa have turned to the local market to support their businesses. In many cases, these domestic travellers might have traditionally taken an ‘overseas’ trip, but have now had the opportunity to explore their own backyard. It is my hope that they will become fantastic advocates for their countries when they start travelling internationally again.
