Greetings to you, UltraMarine readers! If you are a ‘regular’ then I’m sure you’ll already know that this is my first issue as Editor.

Firstly, let me tell you how honoured and excited I am to be taking-on this role. Seriously, I am really thrilled to have been given this opportunity and I’ve already got lots to say, and plenty of ideas for the future. Before all that though, please join me in bidding a fond farewell to Rich Aspinall who has so capably ‘captained the ship’ for so long. You may notice that he’s not actually leaving us completely, indeed you can check out one of his continuing ‘roving reports’ in this very issue! As well as saying a big ‘thank you’ to Rich, my gratitude also goes to UM owners Kumar and Bob of Research Information Ltd. They have all taken their turn in ‘holding my hand’ through this first issue! Truly, they’ve all been
absolutely brilliant to work with so far, as have all our contributors this issue, and I’m already looking forward to our future endeavours.

A new experience for me, and a fairly steep learning curve, I have to say I’ve enjoyed the experience... so far! Anyone who already knows me will realise I’m hopelessly addicted to ‘all things reef’ but just in case you don’t, I’ve taken the opportunity to give a bit of personal and hobby background by way of a feature on my own aquarium in this issue.

Anyway, my space is limited here so I guess I should just rip-up the lengthy acceptance speech, and without further ado, present for your pleasurable perusal, issue 54 of UltraMarine magazine!
