Verlaine’s self-titled solo debut, from 1979, might feature his first solo classic (“Breakin’ In My Heart”) but Dreamtime is where he cuts loose from history and starts to find his true solo voice. Some of his most gorgeous, gently moving songs are here –check the ascending melodies that intertwine through “Mary Marie” –and the guitar is never less than transcendent. 8/10
