Runners’ tummy is no laughing matter. Technically called gastrointestinal problems, this is a common running complaint. “This can affect up to 50 per cent of people who run frequently, particularly those with a heavy training load or in the run up to a big event,” says immunology specialist Dr Jenna Macciochi.
“Although you might be able to manage the symptoms and there is no long-term health risk, a case of runners’ tummy can impair your performance and subsequent recovery.”
