They may have fallen out of fashion in recent years, but 5-mile races are a lovely distance to add to your calendar. A 5-miler is a nice step up for anyone working their way from 5K to their first 10K. And for those comfortable racing 10K, a 5-miler will pose a new challenge that will see you running at a faster pace for almost as far.
It’s a race distance that doesn’t shout about itself as much as it should. Five-milers tend to be organised by local running clubs and you may have to do a little searching to find one close to you. But they’re worth having a look around for as they make a great addition to your race schedule, giving your training some structure and focus between other events.
