The Mystery Writers of America have awarded the 2019 Edgar Allan Poe Awards honouring the best in mystery and crime fiction.
Winners were: Best Novel, Down the River Unto the Sea, Walter Mosley; Best First Novel by an American Author, Bearskin, James A McLaughlin; Best Paperback Original, If I Die Tonight, Alison Gaylin; Best Fact Crime, Tinderbox: The Untold Story of the Up Stairs Lounge Fire and the Rise of Gay Liberation, Robert W Fieseler; Best Critical or Biographical, Classic American Crime Fiction of the 1920s, Leslie S Klinger; Best Juvenile, Otherwood, Pete Hautman; Best YA, Sadie, Courtney Summers; Mary Higgins Clark Award, The Widows of Malabar Hill, Sujata Massey; Sue Grafton Memorial Award, Shell Game, Sara Paretsky. Martin Cruz Smith was made a Grand Master.
