SOURCE OF INSPIRATION
I have just received my February copy of Writing Magazine and saw the mention of life-writing on the cover. I found the article, by Cathy Rentzenbrink, and read it straight away.
Like her, I always wanted to write. Also, like her, I have drawers full of short stories and other work, started but never finished.
Over the years I have read numerous books and articles about how to write: that writers should ‘show not tell’, should find their voice and write what they know. I tried to take all this advice and information on board as I attempted yet another short story or even when I set out on my first attempt at a novel. However, it all came to nothing and, as I read this article, I understood why. Like Cathy, I had decided that I wasn’t talented enough and that no one would want to read what I had written anyway when there were other more gifted authors writing books that people would want to read.
