For as long as we can remember October is the month that the roach shoals on my favourite rivers start to feed in earnest. Since June you could be forgiven for thinking there aren’t many of them in the Severn and Wye but every year, as if by magic, they always start to appear in numbers again this month. Quite why this happens no-one is really sure, but there are plenty of theories. We reckon there is just so much natural feed in the warmer months that the roach don’t need to feed on our baits.
