Hammer highlights
From different centuries and different cultures – same surprising high results for these two toys offered at Tamlyns’ (18% buyer’s premium) sale at Bridgwater on February 15.
The 19th century doll, far left, with bisque head and limbs and original silk and cotton clothes, was unidentified as to maker in the catalogue and pitched at £50-80. It had some minor repairs and damage (her left foot carried a substantial chip) but sold to a Somerset collector at £1150.
