Edward Seago (1910-74), perhaps the best-known 20th century artist who lived and worked almost exclusively in Norfolk, captured the atmosphere of his beloved East Anglia with sweeping compositions and a delicate palette.
Early Spring, Upper Horning (below), one of the painter’s Norfolk views, starred in a sale of pictures at Mallams (22.5% buyer’s premium) in Oxford on February 27. With a gallery label for P&D Colnaghi & Co, the 10 x 13in (25 x 34cm) oil on board took £11,000 against an appealing £4000-6000 guide.
