The Ottoman saddle consigned from Newbattle Abbey near Edinburgh which sold for £56,000.
An Ottoman saddle covered in yellow silk velvet, offered with a remarkable red velvet saddle cloth, applied with gilt metal stars and silver studs, plus bridle and other tack, was chased by bidders to a £56,000 (plus 25% buyer’s premium) hammer price. This was well in excess of its £1000-1500 estimate at Lyon & Turnbull’s Five Centuries sale in Edinburgh on February 5.
