Fragment of bed curtain said to have been embroidered by Mary Queen of Scots – £3200 at Hansons.
Still a figure of glamour 450 years after her execution, Mary Queen of Scots was reputed to have embroidered the c.16th century fragment of bed curtain, above, sold at Hansons (25% buyer’s premium) at Etwall on December 7.
Entered by a vendor who bought it for ‘a modest sum’ some years ago when at her Highlands home, the 6in x 13in (15 x 34cm) fragment featured crewel work of a flowerhead and foliage, in blue, red and pink.
