Architectural drawings treasure trove helps to build optimism

Although 2024 was ultimately a difficult year for the art market overall, for many salerooms around the UK the second half proved a bit better than the first.

In terms of pictures, consignments seemed to be down overall particularly at the top end as sellers seemed to hold back in part due to the uncertain economic climate.

However, more positively, the supply of good-quality ‘middle market’ works appeared to hold up more consistently over the 12 months and, also giving encouragement to the sector, the year ended with a flurry of notable action at both the middle and upper reaches.
