In the Food issue of AQUILA we featured an article about the great molasses disaster that happened in Boston in 1919. The giant vat containing 9.5 million litres of molasses (a thick, treacle-like syrup) burst and spread through the streets, causing chaos and even killing 21 people. Part of the reason the liquid caused such a disaster was due to its viscosity at the time.
