AS POLICE Scotland’s week-long summer drink/drug drive campaign draws to a close, police have reminded motorists that abstinence is the best policy.
The campaign combined intelligence-led high visibility patrols and roadside checks, partly to identify early morning motorists who may still be under the influence from the night before.
An earlier campaign in May saw 121 drivers reported for drink or drug driving and Chief Superintendent Andy Edmonston, head of road policing for Police Scotland, said: ‘It is disappointing that so many people made the wrong decision earlier this summer and were prepared to put themselves and every other road user at risk.
