THE MCCALLUM family took home the supreme open champion trophy from Mid Argyll Show – the first time they have achieved this accolade.
Against high quality breed champions from across the cattle, sheep and dog classes, show umpire Alan Telfer gave the nod to a spring-born calf exhibited by JJ&C Mc- Callum, Strathnafanaig, Clachan.
Otherwise known as ‘Team Stranny’, the calf was brought out by dad Colin McCallum and sons John and Alasdair. The heifer calf, ‘Black Betty’ – by a Belgian Blue sire out of a Limousin cross cow – had earlier won the Achnaba Cup for the champion cross-suckled calf.
