Football fervour

It is a bold move, and no small undertaking, to try to establish a league football club, particularly on Arran where geographically and by numbers alone, we can be left somewhat on the back foot.

So it is heartening to see a determined effort being made despite the difficulties faced – and there will be difficulties – by a small group of footballers who, while more than content to continue to represent their clubs in the local league, aspire to an even bigger playing field by representing Arran as a whole.

There is no doubt that among the crop of Arran’s five teams there already exists the raw talent to compete in a larger arena with more opportunities and exposure. The real question though, is can the regulating powers of the SFA be convinced that Arran could provide a consistent and committed competitor who can assure them of longevity and availability?
