Utilities The know-how

Unless the site is already fully ‘serviced’, you will need to arrange for your site to be connected to mains water and sewerage systems and for electricity and (if applicable) gas connecti ons to be provided. It is helpful for you to check with Scotti sh Water and power companies early on to make sure you can get connecti ons when you need them. In rural areas, parti cularly if the site is far from other properti es or on a hill, there can be problems in connecti ng sites to the mains water and gas grids in parti cular and the cost of the connecti on can be high; therefore if your site is in a remote area, you should check the feasibility of arranging connecti ons before you commit to buying a site. In certain circumstances, you may need to consider providing your own energy or water/sewerage supplies (Scotti sh Water and the energy companies, along with your builder, architect or project manager, should be able to give you further advice on this).
