GOT A PROBLEM? DR RANJ SINGH AND WAYNE DHESI ARE HERE TO OFFER THEIR ADVICE...
Dear Attitude,
I’ve noticed that I’ve been drinking too much and would like to make the most of Dry January and cut down. I had a blackout earlier this year which I understand to be a sign of having a drink problem. I often lose keys, phones and wallets, so I really need to try and do something. Unfortunately, all my friends are big drinkers and going to bars and clubs is a big thing for them. I’ve tried to cut down before and they have ranted and raved at me and told me I’m being boring. I want to tell them that I think I have a problem but they won’t take it seriously. I’m spending more time with a friend who does get it and is supportive but I don’t want to lose this group of friends just because I’m cutting down on my drinking. It’s getting in the way of making serious change though. What should I do? Should I just carry on drinking and partying? Tiago, Glasgow
Dear Tiago,
Many of us enjoy a drink or two, but it can be easy for things to get out of control if you’re not careful. Clues to this might include drinking by yourself a lot, drinking early in the day, getting drunk frequently, blacking out and not remembering things, becoming more unsteady and clumsy, and it impacting on other parts of your life, like work and relationships.
