JUSTIN NEWELL continued his comeback trail with a third straight victory, which came over Telford’s Dean Jones. The Leeds boxer had been out of the sport for over four years before his return in March, owing to a prison sentence for possession of cocaine. Since then, the 30-year-old has reeled off three wins, losing just one of 16 rounds.
This latest one – the headline act of the Bateson Promotions show at the Elland Road Pavilion Suite – was effective rather than thrilling. The pattern looked set from the off with Newell and Jones locked in at close proximity and the aggressor Newell unable to land hurtful blows.
