AMONG plenty of new attractions at this year’s Mid Argyll Show was a section on bees – the busy unsung heroes of food production across the world.
Honey bees are important, not only for the production of honey but also for the contribution they make to the pollination of many crop species and to the wider environment.
Scottish Government figures suggest there are around 2,400 hobby beekeepers around the country, along with around 25 commercial bee farmers.
