Gavin and Ina Semple’s Kilkeddan herd proved it’s the cream of the crop, taking the best overall title at Kintyre Holstein Breeders’ annual herds competition. Eight teams took part in the event on May 16, and the judge for the day was Campbell McNicol from Genus plc, a British-based business selling products manufactured using biotechnology to cattle and pig farmers.
Results: Large herds: 1 West Backs, 2 Drumalea, 3 Kilkivan, 4 Machrihanish. Small herds: 1 Kilkeddan, 2 Dhurrie, 3 Trodigal, 4 Killarow. Individual: 1 Kilkeddan, 2 Trodigal, 3 Dhurrie. Production - recorded: 1 Machrihanish.
Production - non-recorded: 1 Kilkeddan, 2 West Backs, 3 Kilkeddan. Best herd overall: Kilkeddan. Best herd opposite size: West Backs.
