Acosmopolitan ear and an open mind saw lead guitarist Mick Jones embrace elements from a diverse range of musical disciplines into his work with The Clash and Big Audio Dynamite, yet, crucially, he never forgot priceless lessons learned poring over the music of Mott The Hoople. With The Clash, Jones specialised in short, sharp solos that, while succinct, sparked with tangible and infectious passion. Here was the heroic drama of the glam era’s ultimate practitioners (Ralphs and Ronson) stripped to its bare bones for an impatient epoch, yet losing none of its inspiring uplift.
