The US government is considering a ban of TP-Link routers over concerns they pose a risk to national security. Investigations by three US Departments –
Justice, Commerce and Defense – are ongoing, sources told the Wall Street Journal.
At least one office within the Commerce Department has requested documents from the company, the newspaper reported.
TP-Link, which is based in China, has grown to supply over 300 US internet service providers with routers. Its products are used by several US government agencies, including the Department of Defense and Nasa.
It’s also one of the biggest router manufacturers in the UK, competing with the likes of Asus, D-Link, Linksys and Netgear.
