W henVanessa Timko, who lives in Philadelphia, USA, first spotted our moon landing design in issue, she knew she had to stitch it…
The Apollo 11 Moon Landing happened on Vanessa’s father’s 46th birthday, when she was 13 years old. “When I saw Maria Diaz’s incredible chart, I was almost keeping up with the Alice in Wonderland SAL, (still have to finish that!), but ‘One Giant Leap’ was a drop everything moment,” Vanessa confesses. She learned a lot from tackling the design. “This was only the second pattern I had gridded; I’m so glad I did, it definitely made keeping track of where I was much easier! I love the half stitches that Maria incorporated, they added so much depth. Admittedly, my back looks pretty crazy with all the traveling threads ‘between the stars’. I couldn’t figure out how to end all of those single half stitches out there in space! Because of that I did learn the pin stitch and how to do the loop start with an odd number of threads from the front!”
