Step it up

The interesting thing about steps is that they always take you somewhere, whether that’s into a house, up to a majestic folly, over a water feature or being presented as a symbol of wealth and authority. Photographing them is largely determined by how much space there is to frame the photo. The more space, the more options you have, but it usually comes down to a choice between a wide-angle lens when there is little space and the potential of a modest telephoto when there is plenty. The good news is that you won’t need a tripod.
