Some of the cast and crew of The Paternoster Gang: Heritage 3 – director Ken Bentley, Robert Portal, Annette Badland, Robert Fitch, Neve McIntosh, Dan Starkey and writer Robert Valentine.
From its conception, Robert Valentine’s script for Whatever Remains was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes stories. “The brief was short but speci. c: ‘The gang go to the Jurassic coast on a possibly Baskervillian adventure, and it should be a story that involves some kind of Silurian relic’,” Robert remembers. “That gave me the opportunity to tell a ‘Sherlock Holmes abroad’ story – he doesn’t always stick around in foggy London, he goes o. into the wilds a bit.”
When Rob rewatched the 2012 Doctor Who episode The Snowmen, which suggested Doyle had based the character of Holmes on Madame Vastra, he decided to develop the link a little further. “Because I was basically doing a Hound of the Baskervilles-type story, it was just a no-brainer to me,” he says. “Of course Conan Doyle would nick their adventure o. them and, years down the line, turn it into one of his own!
