BRETT GOLDSTEIN MAY have found global fame as foul-mouthed footballer Roy Kent in Ted Lasso. But in All About You, a tender romantic dramedy with a slight sci-fi twist, he leaves midfield behind and steps into a new role: leading man.
Goldstein stars alongside Imogen Poots as Simon and Laura, two lifelong friends who seem destined for each other. Until she takes a test which purports to identify her soulmate, and it isn’t Simon. Complications ensue, giving Goldstein the chance to be funny and charming and tender and melancholy by turns. If it seems tailor-made for him, it was. He wrote it, along with the director, William Bridges. “It’s easier to write for yourself,” he explains. “I know what my voice sounds like. I can change stuff if it doesn’t sound right. When you’ve written it, you’ve already acted it in your head.”
