Around 90% of people with IBS say food triggers their symptoms. Changing what foods and drinks you consume has been shown to achieve impressive benefits in around 50% of sufferers, and it’s something you can start on your own. There is another approach, which is a little more in-depth and involves restricting specific carbohydrates known as FODMAPs – many of which are prebiotics – followed by staged reintroductions. We’ll look at this in more detail over the following pages.
