As former principal dancer with New York City Ballet, artistic director of American Ballet Theatre and Oscar-nominated actor, Mikhail Baryshnikov has always set the barre high – which was noted when he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Coronation Award.
The dance legend was presented with the honour – the Royal Academy of Dance’s highest – by the Queen Consort, who is vice patron of the academy and a huge ballet fan. Also on hand – if not en pointe – and applauding approvingly as Her Majesty handed over the award was Dame Darcey Bussell (all right).
