One of the brightest stars in the fashion firmament dimmedwhen 102-year-old style icon Iris Apfel died at the beginning of March.
Nicknamed “the geriatric starlet” by herself, no less, Iris – who before finding fame as an octogenarian fashionista had worked for decades in textiles and interior design, including at the White House – passed away at her home in Palm Springs.
Around the world, fans mourned the loss of a woman whose oversized glasses, outlandish outfits – often festooned with feathers and faux fur – and extravagant costume jewellery perfectly encapsulated her motto in life: “More is more and less is a bore.”
