As well as being perfect for listening to music and asking Siri to dish out facts, the HomePod – and new HomePod mini – can now make use of a new Intercom feature. Also working across iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods and CarPlay, it allows you to send dictated voice messages between devices connected to your network. You can put a general callout to family members and have a message appear on every device or you can limit it to particular rooms or people.
The feature is automatically included in iOS and iPadOS 14.2 and later. If you want to use it on the HomePod, you’ll need version 14.2 installed and, for the Watch, watchOS 7.1 From there, it’s simply a matter of using Siri and the new Intercom command.
