Bulk process images at the command prompt

What app do you use to resize, crop, rotate and perform other actions on images? We bet it is not Terminal, that’s for sure. However, there are commands that can be entered at the Terminal command prompt to perform various actions on images, so it’s worthwhile to learn how to use them.
Sips is a tool that can be accessed from the command prompt in a Terminal window and it performs a variety of useful actions on image files, including bulk image processing. Although Preview can be used to open images, resize them and then save them, it works on one image at a time. Sips can process multiple images in one go.
