THE decision to award the 2025 Rugby League World Cup to France last January has been selected as the most significant Rugby League event of 2022 by League Express. The French Federation held a press conference in Paris, which was opened by the then French prime minister Jean Castex, who explained that the 17th edition of the World Cup would return to the country which held the first in 1954.
The Rugby League World Cup will be the third in a major trifecta of international events in France, with the Rugby Union World Cup this year and the Olympics in 2024 preceding it.
