A comment on t he 3D printing article in LX296: it said nothing about Linux; nothing about software needs, supporting libraries, preferred languages, user skill set or levels; and nothing about how open source has fostered the development of 3D printing (only that it has fostered it). And although it provided some history of the development, even that was superficial. It’s not evident what the reader is supposed to do with the content of this article.
As a result, it came across too much as just promoting the 3D printing market, not providing a tutorial introduction, an analysis of past or future, or a critical review, which is what LXF articles almost always provide. Gregory A Miller, Chicago

I’ll throw my hands up and agree with you. In fact, I sent this reply to the author: “If I was concentrating a bit more, I should have perhaps asked you to lean into the open source origins of consumer 3D printing and explore if that’s still important and how it’s being used … but the brief was looking at the next-gen tech. So all good!”
