MX-Linux Pi Beta
Les Pounder dusts off that old 1GB Raspberry Pi 4 to test drive a lightweight, yet surprisingly configurable alternative to the official OS.
IN BRIEF
A lightweight OS based upon Raspberry Pi OS Buster release, MX Linux is fresh, nippy and very configurable. It has a few quirks, but these can be overlooked when we consider the excellent compatibility with HATs and add-on boards. MX Linux works on Raspberry Pi 3, Zero 2W and 1GB Pi 4, but more RAM offers a better experience.
M X Linux is a popular distribution. It breathes new life into old kit (just ask our collection of ThinkPads) and for over a year now it’s done the same to Raspberry Pi. The latest beta, codenamed Ragout 2, sees the popular Linux distro continue with a 32-bit OS based upon Raspberry Pi OS (itself based upon Debian Buster). Designed for the Raspberry Pi 3 and above, MX Linux is lightweight and nippy, if you have the RAM. More on that later.
