Condition monitoring specialist company WearCheck has opened a new laboratory in Kathu, South Africa. Kathu is considered the iron ore capital of the Northern Cape province due to its numerous iron ore mines.
While for many years there has been a WearCheck office in Kathu where used oil samples could be dropped off, the nearest laboratory was in Johannesburg, where the samples were processed. However, now the samples are processed in Kathu, reducing turnaround time for local samples to 24 hours or less.
Kathu laboratory is created from three remodeled shipping containers to be flexible and accommodate new industry developments in terms of equipment, while saving costs in building a permanent structure.
