Master Detective  |  Master Detective June 2019
Ask any crime buff to name a British hangman and, chances are, the first one they’ll come up with is Albert Pierrepoint. In a 25-year career, the famous executioner and publican dispatched hundreds of killers, including Acid Bath Murderer John George Haigh and 10 Rillington Place strangler John Reginald Halliday Christie. In our new series, “The Hangings of Albert Pierrepoint”, starting this issue, we’ll look at a dozen cases, and we begin with the horrific double-murder that led to Pierrepoint’s very first hanging.
Many would argue that Roy Archibald Hall deserved the noose, but his killing spree took place more than a decade after the abolition of capital punishment. See “Murderous Butler Left A Trail Of Bodies”, in this month’s Master Detective.
