HOW WE TEST
Numbers, numbers, and more numbers. Analyzing data is everything to a good tech nerd, and we’re no different here at Maximum PC. Understanding how each and every system we build performs is pivotal for us to give you a good critique of the system at hand and recommend whether you should pick up the parts to create your own.
Every system we finish and complete here in the Maximum PC lab is heavily tested across all manner of benchmarks and scenarios. We cover absolutely everything from CPU performance and SSD speeds to power draw, thermal performance, AI potency, and of course, gaming at both 1080p and 4K. There are a total of 98 test runs conducted, giving us a whole host of data points to draw from.
THIS ISSUE’S ZERO POINT
We’re using exactly the same zero point as the previous issue. That’s a custom RTX 4080 build, built off the back of Intel’s 14th Gen 14900K under its revised microcode, and backed up by the RTX 4080 Gigabyte Aero OC (that equally performs identically to its Super cousin, too). Interestingly, the core pricing for our RTX 5080 build here is significantly lower than that little number, although it’s worth pointing out that neither GPU is currently available for purchase, sadly. The RTX 4080 Aero OC holds a special position, as although slightly more expensive than its RTX 4080 Super successor, it performs just as well, and effectively bridges the gap between the three generations of GPU, giving a really clean look at just how well the RTX 5080 does in game.
