ARM will design a series of chips under its own name. The word is that this will be a serious technological push to design an innovative advanced chip following the success of the Apple M2. The design team will be led by Kevork Kechichian, who spent years on the Snapdragon. There are no plans to produce commercial quantities, but rather a series of prototypes to show what ARM is capable of. Why now though, after years of quietly working behind the scenes? Next year, the company plans an IPO, launching it onto the stock market. More buzz: a higher price. ARM hopes to get a return on its investment by showing potential investors what it is capable of.
