WEDNESDAY 13
SOUTH OF SALEM / SICK ’N’ BEAUTIFUL / TARAH WHO?
THE DOME, LONDON
There’s something about spending a Holy Saturday with Wednesday 13 that just feels right. The Duke Of Spook has brought his schlocky horror show to our shores to celebrate the first two decades of his career with the appropriately titled Halfway To The Grave! tour. First off, TARAH WHO?’s raw, angular grunge and sardonic punk energy comes with an injection of youthful promise and unmistakeable talent. Italian alt metallers SICK ’N’ BEAUTIFUL bring the theatrics with their alien costumes and props, but it’s charismatic singer Herma, channelling Maria Brink and Rob Zombie, who really makes an impression. Although SOUTH OF SALEM’s set feels pedestrian in comparison, the energy is still high in anticipation of what’s next. Tonight WEDNESDAY 13 takes the congregation on a glorious romp that spans fan favourites Bad Things to Frankenstein Drag Queens’ I Love To Say Fuck, peppered with lesser-played tracks like From Here To The Hearse and songs from 2022’s Horrifier. The only sombre moment comes in a touching tribute to Joey Jordison, before the band tear into Murderdolls’ anthemic Nowhere with an ecstatic crowd singing along. A night of horror-punk delight.
